Even before I went to Seoul, I knew that there are some good places to view cherry blossoms trees. I was staying in Seoul for 3 months at the time. Furthermore, that stay period also ensured that I’ll get to see the cherry blossom in Seoul, in addition to that, on a beautiful day.
On April 6, 2018, I’ve decided to go to the National Assembly Building. It’s one of the most recommended viewing spots in Seoul to view the cherry blossom. Clearly, I picked up a clear sky day so I can enjoy staying outdoors for a longer time and I can take some great photos too.
Location of the National Assembly Building
The National Assembly Building is a government office, located at 1 Uisadang-daero, Yeoeuido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu.
The cherry blossom trees are spread around the rear side of the building, alongside the road around the National Assembly. I personally prefer seeing blossoms in natural environments, not in urban areas, even so, I enjoy blossoms wherever they are.
Cherry Blossom Forecast
It should be noted that in order to see the cherry blossoms, make sure you check the local cherry blossom forecast in Seoul. Add the date so it’s relevant, for example; “Cherry blossom forecast Seoul 2020” or “Cheery blossom forecast in Seoul 2021”. This ensures you get a forecast for that particular year. Sometimes the weather is a bit hot or colder than the average for the season, hence, and this can change the blossom peak time.
Here is the 2020 cherry blossom forecast for Seoul and other cities/regions.
- Jeju Island – March 23-30 (Full Bloom: March 23)
- Busan – March 26 – April 2 (Full Bloom: March 26)
- Gwangju – March 29 – April 5 (Full Bloom: March 29)

- Seoul – April 6 – April 13 ( Full Bloom: April 6)

I recommend always staying up-to-date with various sources. The best one is very close to the dates on Korean websites.
Seoul Cherry Blossom Video
I captured some photos and I am going to share it with you in the next section. Here is a video I captured near the National Assembly Building in 2018. Similarly, you can expect to see the same beautiful cherry blossom viewing in 2019, 2020, 2021 and so forth. You can see how beautiful the flowers on the trees are and how this place look like it was dressed for us. It’s a fun, relaxing, and magical experience for the whole family.
Cherry Blossom Photo Gallery
Finally, it’s time for some cherry blossom photos from the National Assembly. I took those photos using my Apple iPhone 5S smartphone. It has an OK camera, but I could have gotten even better photos had I had a better one.
Are There Any Pink Blossoms in Seoul?
The cherry blossom trees there were producing white flowers. I Japan, for example, I’ve seen many pinkish ones, especially the cherry blossoms in Japan Mint Cherry Blossom viewing. Most Noteworthy, there were plenty of varieties there.
This blossom was similar to the cherry blossoms in Osaka near the river. There are those varieties in Korea as well, like in Nami Island, Gangwon Region, in the city of Jinhae where the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival takes place and more. While I wanted to go there, I just wasn’t in those places to see many pinkish cherry blossoms when I was in Seoul.
Do you know how I knew it was a good time to go and see the blossoms? Well, not just because of the forecast, it’s because there were trees near a school near my Airbnb place. I saw those trees every day getting fuller with flowers. At the time they were full of flowers, I knew it’s the best time to get out. This was hand-in-hand with the forecast that year by the way.
In conclusion, a fantastic experience, highly recommended if you are already in Seoul during the dates where the cherry blossom starts popping out. Enjoy.
