Osaka Castle Photos – February-April 2019

Osaka Castle

In this post, I share some pictures I’ve captured of Osaka Castle (大坂城 or 大阪城, Ōsaka-jō) from different angles. Including photos from Spring 2019 with cherry blossoms.

Osaka Castle is a very famous tourist destination in Osaka, Japan, and a must-see place if you visit Osaka or staying in the nearby city of Kyoto.

The castle was built in 1583 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, was in use between 1583-1868 and was demolished in 1868. The castle then went through a reconstruction period that ended in 1997. Its interior serves as a museum.

Let’s take a look at some photos that I’ve captured before and during Cherry Blossom. I personally love the picture of the Golden Wasen (“Osaka Castle Gozabune”), which is a golden boat that can take you around moats of the Osaka Castle. Gozabune is a roofed boat with a Tanami floor.

I personally didn’t ride it, but it definitely looked amazing against the beautiful Osaka castle. Photos were taken using my OnePlus 6 Android smartphone.

I remember the first time I got to Osaka Castle. I was blown away by the beauty of it. I always wanted to see big Japanese buildings. Don’t confuse it with Himeji Castle in the city of Himeji (quite far from Osaka, ~1:20 hours by train), which is a much larger and the most impressive castle in entire Japan. I will share a picture of it in a later post.

Osaka Castle looks beautiful in Spring. There are several cherry blossom trees scattered around it, with a very impressive. If you climb up from the stairs, it’s near the Site of Yamazatoguchimon Gate. Click here to see the location on Google Maps.

Tip: Did you know that when using Google maps, you can switch to Satellite view, then hold the Control (CTRL) key on your keyboard and use the mouse to rotate the map and view a 3d view of the area.

Recommendation: check out Osaka Castle Sakuya Lumina. It’s a beautiful night light show for all the family to enjoy. A great attraction for kids as well. More information on the official sakuyalumina.jp website. I enjoyed taking photos of Osaka Castle. It’s a beautiful Japanese castle and I’ve been there several times during my stay in Osaka. I plan to visit the place again on my next trip to Japan and of course, I’ll share more pictures once I am there.

I hope you enjoy this post about Osaka Castle, more to come so stay tuned.
